A little distraction from the SWISH wait, Kim Kardashian West threw it back to a “baby” Ye’—not North or Saint– but a middle school poet that would eventually become her Grammy Award-winning rapper husband.
In reverence of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the reality star resurfaced Mr. West’s ode to the Civil Rights leader in 1990. As a preteen, West was too short for the height of the microphone, which was adjusted to fit him. But his diction and words on one of the greatest influences to American society command just as much attention as the rapper’s outspoken remarks over the years.
He recites, “A man who fought for freedom/ A man who fought for equality.” West closes with, “Martin Luther King is who I’m speaking of/ A man whose name means love.”
Take a peek at the full version of his poem, entitled “His Name Means Love” below.
