Deny Kanye West as the “greatest rock star on the planet” if you wish, but don’t deny his penchant for creating an entertaining music video.
This year’s MTV Video Music Awards will include the presentation of their coveted Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award to none other than Mr. West. The network made the announcement via Twitter that Sunday night’s show (Aug. 30) will place Yeezy in the company of past recipients including The Beastie Boys, Justin Timberlake and Beyonce:

In recent years, honorees have preceded the presentation with medley performances of their greatest hits. Timberlake and Beyonce most recently brought the house down, with the former NSYNC member tapping his bandmates for his set, and Mrs. Carter being presented her trophy by Jay Z and Blue Ivy. Never one to be outdone, it is a safe assumption that West has something up his tattered adidas sleeve for the evening – notwithstanding his acceptance speech.
The 2015 MTV Video Music Awards will be hosted by Miley Cyrus and airs on Aug. 30 at 9 p.m. EST.
