In his first appearance since rumors of his breakup with Katy Perry, John Mayer confirmed that the two had called it quits.
He stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show and spoke about their recent split (the two previously ended things last August before giving it another try) only to reveal the second time wasn’t the charm.
“It was a very private relationship going in, it was a private relationship during, and it’s a private relationship still,” Mayer told Ellen, admitting that their busy schedules were putting a strain on their love life. The Continuum singer’s prepping his first major tour since he had throat surgery back in Oct. 2011 while Katy is hard at work on her new album.
“Coupling is a tricky thing,” he added. “I just want everyone to be happy.”
He also spoke on how alcohol played a big role in his need for throat surgery. “I’m getting to that age now where the body doesn’t just shake everything off,” he said. “It didn’t really help that I love Scotch. It’s just like a delicious, wonderful poison. I had to really say that I liked singing and writing more than I like delicious Scotch.”
His “Born and Raised” tour is set to hit 49 cities and kicks off on April 12th.
