The Grammys made a single mistake with Kendrick Lamar – and it looks like they will never let it happen again.
TDE’s MVP has made history as the second most Grammy-nominated artist in a single year, as K. Dot snatched up 11 nods for the 2016 award show. Trailing just behind Michael Jackson – who was nominated for 12 gramophones back in 1984 – Kendrick’s polarizing To Pimp A Butterfly album and standout track “Alright” lead the way this year. The Compton rapper is eyeing honors such as Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Rap Album of the Year.
The Weeknd and Taylor Swift follow Kendrick with seven nominations each, as they both compete with the rapper for Album of the Year and Record of the Year. Fetty Wap, Jidenna, Andra Day, Kehlani, The Internet also make noteworthy debuts into the Grammy-nominated club. Nicki Minaj, Drake, Miguel, D’Angelo, Tyrese and Jazmine Sullivan also return to the list for another year.
