The joint album every young hip-hop head has been (impatiently) waiting for is still a possibility. In a recent interview with Hot 97, Kendrick Lamar discussed his To Pimp A Butterfly album, the state of hip-hop and Jay Z’s TIDAL streaming service. He also confirmed that a joint album with J. Cole is “definitely” something the two plan on putting together.
“Yeah, definitely. I still would love to do it,” he said. “I talked to the bro, about a little bit over a month and he’s on the tour rocking. So we’re gonna try and make something happen. They want that.”
K. Dot also gave praise to Cole for promotion of his 2014 Forest Hills Drive album. The Compton rapper’s compliment comes just a week after Cole professed that Kendrick’s music could help end gang violence in L.A.

“Crazy. How they went about it, popping up at fans’ houses? Come on, man,” he said. “You don’t get the marketing resources from a record label. That’s them.”
Speaking on he and Cole’s place in the current hip-hop climate, Kendrick remarked that it was he and his rap cohort’s responsibility to provide balance within the genre.
“I like all energies of music. It’s just the balance; we just gotta make sure we have that balance. And it’s up to me to bring that. It’s up to Cole – and I know where he come from – to bring that and keep that balance in there.”
