Kendrick Lamar’s wisdom isn’t a front. Some people can be fake intelligent. Not Kendrick. Even as a young, yet sagacious 22-year-old, the Compton emcee understood the importance of sharing the truth–and his truth.
Recently, a 2009 interview with a braid-less Kendrick hit the ‘Net. During the six-minute clip, the TDE emcee discussed changing his name from K.Dot to his government name, working on his break-out album, Good Kid, m.A.A.d City, and his mission in life.
“I’m 22, I was born and raised in Compton, California. I love music. I think I was put on Earth just to do music. I think everybody has they mission to set out what they want to do or what they supposed to do in life. I think God made me to spread my voice to the world–straight up,” Kendrick said in the throwback interview.
Lamar went on to explain how he was maturing as a person and an emcee, and discussed his desire for fans to really know him as a person. Throughout the interview, one can hear Kendrick’s confidence and wisdom without sounding arrogant. You get feeling that Kendrick really believes that he was put on earth to share his story through music.
