The Black Hippy front man stopped by WGCI’s “The Morning Riot” in Chicago to chat about his growing friendship with Lady Gaga, his performance at last weekend’s Pitchfork Festival, and his upcoming work with Dr. Dre. He also revealed what inspired him to become a rapper in the first place.
According to Lamar, it was seeing Tupac and Dr. Dre shooting California Love in Compton that inspired the then 7-year-old to pursue a career in hip-hop.
“I was in Compton and they were shooting the first version of it,” he said. “They stopped right in front of the middle of the street. My pops had seen them and came back to the house and got me. My father went to the house to get me and put me on his shoulders to watch them shoot.”
From then on, the now 25-year-old’s mind was made up; and it’s paid off for all of his fans. Check out the full interview below.
