While Earl Sweatshirt may not have been a fan of Taylor Swift “perpetuating black stereotypes,” another rapper is singing a different tune.
Taylor Swift recently shared with Rolling Stone that Kendrick Lamar’s “Backseat Freestyle” is her go-to track to “go from feeling victimized to feeling awesome,” and K. Dot appreciates the love.
While hitting up the ONE Musicfest in Atlanta yesterday (Sept. 13), Kendrick was asked by the Associated Press for a reaction to Swift’s comments about his track. He showed gratitude for the country singer’s support of hip-hop culture.
“Some people always try to lock it down and categorize it for one particular listener,” he said. “But it moves all, even people from other genres. I appreciate Taylor Swift for supporting not only my music but just the hip-hop culture. There’s really no gap. It’s music and it feels good.”
Could this mean that a Kendrick Lamar and Taylor Swift collaboration might be coming to a speaker near you, or did we just get ahead of ourselves?
