Ain’t nothing getting in Kendrick Lamar’s way right now. The rap royal is in his zone, and it only seems to be getting better. After his recent album DAMN. shot up to No. 1 on the charts this week, the RIAA confirmed that his 2011, debut studio album Section.80 has boosted to certified Gold. To be exact, it only took 2,114, but later is always better than never.
Section.80 was K.Dot’s first album released independently through TDE, before he officially inked a deal with Aftermath and Interscope. The new accomplishment earns the rapper three-for-three album certifications, not including his latest work of art. But the gold lining wouldn’t be considered his highest recognition, as his 2015 album To Pimp A Butterfly went three Gold and one Platinum shortly after its release. Not to mention, 2013’s good kid, m.A.A.d city also scored Platinum certification 10 months after its release. Tallying his albums and single certifications up, Kendrick has a total of seven plaques.
While this is definitely an impressive achievement, the Compton rapper is most likely reveling in the success of his newest album, which is on pace to sell close to 500K in first-week copies. Additionally, Kung-Fu Kenny received positive reviews of his music video for “DNA.” featuring Don Cheadle. And to top it all off, the rapper will be closing out the second weekend of Coachella this weekend (April 23). It doesn’t get better than that!
