Earlier this week, Keri Hilson took to Instagram to reveal a longtime occurrence about her place in life concerning new music. The “Energy” singer published a note stating that she’s been “sitting on” tunes for quite some time, but arduous obstacles have caused her to hit the pause button on dropping the music.
“I’ve lost some pivotal characters in the process of stepping away for my wellbeing…though I was prepared for the possibility that some wouldn’t understand or lose faith in me as an artist while I dealt with the trials of my life, it still hurts,” she wrote. “But I accept the fact that some relationships have just run their course.”
In 2009, Hilson stepped from behind her profession as a hit songwriter to step into the role of a bonafide R&B vocalist. The Georgia native released In A Perfect World, a debut album that boasted cuts like “Slow Dance, “Energy,” “Turnin Me On,” and “Knock You Down.” A year later, Hilson kept the hits coming with No Boys Allowed, a project that listed “Pretty Girl Rock,” “One Night Stand,” and “The Way You Love Me” as standout singles.
In January 2017, Hilson discussed on The Real the output of an album reportedly titled Love Is a Religion (L.I.A.R) backed by a Mike WiLL Made-It-produced single called “Again.” Then in March 2018, Hilson partnered with If Only to launch an auction that would award one fan the chance to visit her studio and hear her new album.
Despite the setback and the imminent outpour of new music, Hilson reassured fans that “music will always be a huge part of who I am, but there is a process in process…challenges that I still must overcome for that work & future work to see the light of day it deserves.”
