Run the Jewels did not take the news well that a new movie is in production with the same name as their group. Run The Jewels, the film, is about a group of failed rappers who attempt to rob an eccentric hip-hop mogul. The Hollywood Reporter announced Tuesday (June 21) that the self-prescribed “comedic rockstar” Kevin Hart, will be the man in charge of production for the Universal action-comedy movie.
As anyone could expect, the announcement of this film has caused a stir within the hip hop community. One half of RTJ, Jaime “El-P” Meline, voiced his numerous complaints and concerns on Twitter.
excuse me while I go starve a savage pack of lawyers for 7 days.

The script will be written by Alex Blagg, a writer for Comedy Central’s Workaholics and Neel Shah who has an extensive TV resume, which includes being co-creator and executive producer on the show Midnight and showrunner for Comedy Central’s Problematic.
It will be interesting to see if El-P and Killer Mike get the name of the movie changed, or just choose to ignore its existence. Right now, the two rappers are hard at work on their third studio album, currently titled Run The Jewels 3, which should be released sometime in 2016.
pleased to report #RTJ3 is halfway done, the goal of a 2016 release is achievable and a safer, more profitable global economy in our grasp.
