Kid Cudi didn’t deliver his new album Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’ on Friday (Sept. 30) as promised, but the artist did drop two singles on iTunes to keep his fans satisfied.
Clearance issues were to blame for the delay, but the presence of “Surfin” a horn-heavy track about the road to independence, will inspire many. Produced by Pharrell, Cudi mentions on the song his refusal to ride “waves” created by others. Coincidence or not, Cudder’s recent twitter rant on writing teams curated for Kanye West and Drake creates grounds for a footnote (and a few thinking emojis).
Cudi points out the flaws of the music industry. “The industry is so full of sh*** Welcome y’all to the enema/Nah man that’s subliminal/Cause they insecure, they know who they are,” he says before falling into his soothing hums.
The artist performed the track at the Trillectro Music Festival earlier this year. The chilling, yet poise “Frequency” was heard back in March, but is now available for purchase.
