When historians look back at the year in rap for 2014, they may determine it to be the worst year for the genre in quite sometime. Besides the obvious valley of low album sales industry wide, rap itself has been stuck in an odd place thanks to no albums from the genre’s top stars. The healthy discussion on Twitter even brought KiD CuDi to offer his opinion on the matter, saying that he isn’t impressed by rap as a whole these days, citing the “anybody can do it” factor. “We need more people approaching it like an art form w (sic) some peace of mind,” Cudi wrote, citing the lack of artists rapping for a purpose outside of making money. “On the rare occasion I stumble upon some new shit that’s powerful and has meaning, I become impressed with that artist,” Cudi said. “They could dumb down their music, surely connect to a larger audience and make a shit ton of money, but that’s not impressive.”
