Although he has done a lot to help Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders gain the black vote, Killer Mike still has to be cautious when it comes to other voting demographics. At a rally for Sanders on Tuesday (Feb. 16), The Run The Jewels MC reportedly told the crowd at Morehouse College in Atlanta, “a uterus doesn’t qualify you to be president,” The New York Times reported.
Turns out that he was quoting a conversation he had with teacher and activist Jane Elliott to make a point about female voters casting their ballots for Hillary Clinton solely because she’s a woman.
“I talked to Jane Elliott a few weeks ago and Jane said, ‘Michael, a uterus doesn’t qualify you to be president of the United States,” he explained to the crowd of almost 5,000. “You have to be, you have to have policy that’s reflective of social justice.’ Paying women a fair wage is social justice. Making sure that minorities have jobs is social justice.”
Alas, the backlash was abundant, and Killer Mike went on Twitter to explain his use of the quote.
“…Becuz another progressive woman says something disagreeing I’m sexist. Lmfao” he wrote.
After a slew of negative responses via the social media site, The ATLien clarified his statements that he was solely quoting a progressive woman who explained one of the reasons as to why she was not voting for Clinton.
Check out some of the tweets and the comments in context below.
