On Friday (Oct. 19), Kodie Shane released “Thinking Bout U,” a new song off her upcoming debut album Young Heartthrob (Epic Records).
Throughout the 3:12 melody, the Atlanta native utilizes her skills for talk-crooning over a poppy hook. The lyrics run over a West Coast groove driven by guitars as Shane professes her romantic feelings to a new girl: “I was into her but now I told her that it’s time’s up / If she gon’ get drama something, I’ma pick the drums up / I was thinking ’bout you last night, but now the sun’s up.”
The song arrives after the release of her latest tracks “Sing To Her,” and “Flex On Me” with fellow singer TK Kravitz. Not yet 21 years old, Shane is set to make significant noise in the industry as one of 2018’s most promising young artists.
Raised in a music industry family—her father was part of a 1980s Detroit R&B group while her sister Brandi Williams was a member of late 90s R&B trio Blaque (“808”, “Bring It All to Me”)—the singer was recruited to join Lil’ Yachty‘s Sailing Team at sixteen. The next year, she was signed to Sony Music.
Shane’s been generating impressive streams with a series of EPs and mixtapes like Zero Gravity, Big Trouble Little Jupiter, and Back From the Future. Touring with Lil Uzi Vert, Yachty, Snakehips, SYD from The Internet and Jhene Aiko has also put the rising artist’s name on the map.
