The nominees for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame class of 2013 have been announced and alongside Public Enemy and NWA, this year, electronic music is being recognized. Having laid the foundations for four decades of computerized pop and dance music, Kraftwerk, led by founder Ralf Hütter, has influenced generations of artists in all genres, mapping musical futures yet to come. From Bowie to Daft Punk, New Order to Depeche Mode, Afrika Bambaataa to Björk, Dr Dre to Jay-Z, Radiohead to LCD Soundsystem and almost everyone in between, the mark of Kraftwerk is seemingly without end. The German electronica pioneers received a nomination this year for one of music’s most prestigious awards, and if inducted, they will be the first purely electronic recording artist to join the Hall of Fame.
An artist or band becomes eligible for a nomination 25 years after releasing a debut single or album. For the first time, fans get to vote and help decide the winner. From now through December 5, the public can vote for the five nominees they believe to be most deserving of induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The top five artists, as selected by the public, will comprise a “fans’ ballot” that will be tallied along with the other ballots to choose the 2013 inductees. Vote right here! The Induction Ceremony will take place at Nokia Theatre in LA on April 18, 2013 and will air on HBO.
