Lady Leshurr may arguably be one of the best MCs on the U.K. rap scene. And to prove why she deserves a seat on top, the rapper released a powerful track and music video for “Unleshed 2” on Jan. 23. On the track, she brings awareness to mental health by addressing her own battle with depression and anxiety.
In the music video, Lady Leshurr spits bars in a vacant parking lot in the usual one-take film fashion, but within the lyrics, she details her personal battle with mental health, which was brought on a as result of her fame. “I lock myself away, but I still feel trapped / I’m a human being with a broken heart and a soul that’s cracked / I tried to take my life in my own flat / A few months ago I assaulted for being black,” she raps. “So why would I want to leave? / Why would I want to stay? / Sometimes I want to leave this place because no one knows how it is.”
The new single and visuals come shortly after it was announced that Lady Leshurr would perform at the 2017 Field Day concert in London. She will reportedly headline the show on June 3, alongside Run The Jewels. In the meantime, check out Lady Leshurr’s video for “Unleshed 2” below.
