When Lalah Hathaway steps in front of a microphone, she comes to take her audience’s breath away. This time around, the privy crowd was the team over at NPR during her Tiny Desk performance. Flanked by a band of a bass player, pianist and drummer, Donny Hathaway’s accomplished daughter brought jazzy elegance to the nation’s capital.
She charmed viewers with three selections: “Change Ya Life,” “Boston” and “Honestly.” To untrained ears, the latter song may sound like an ode to a lover on the way out, but in reality, Lalah says the song is actually a reflection about how she feels about the current state of America.
“Honestly” and “Change Ya Life” are both takeaways from her new album, Honestly. Watch Lalah’s full performance below.
