Rumors of Lauryn Hill’s tax evasion case have been circulating on social mediums everywhere. However, the legendary former Fugees member cleared up the allegations that she may be facing new tax issues. Back in 2012, Hill was charged for tax evasion and served time in federal prison for three months. She posted a message on Twitter Monday (July 18), describing how trying the case has been for her since its beginning a few years ago.

According to the New York Daily News, Hill still owes nearly $500,000 in back taxes, $438,211 to be exact, per a judgement filed on June 30 in Mercer County, NJ.
As many of us know, Hill hasn’t released any new music of her own since 2008 when she released a joint project along with many other notable artists covering the latest and greatest hits of the revolutionary Nina Simone. Hopefully, the Grammy winner will be releasing a new album soon, but there’s no rush on the incoming musical masterpiece because she continues to perform on stages across the globe selling shows out one after another. Hill called her legal troubles “an uphill battle,” but in the face of darkness she continues to find the light and continues to create timeless music.
