The talk of the 57th Annual Grammy Awards evening on Feb. 8 didn’t solely center around Kanye West’s stage bomb. There was a divide between viewers on whether or not Beyonce or Ledisi should’ve sang “Take My Hand, Precious Lord,” which was originally performed by the iconic Mahalia Jackson in 1956, who was immortalized in Selma by Ledisi.
The “Bravo” singer already expressed her thoughts on Bey belting out the melody, but now she hopes that this instance will push people to support all of R&B’s stars so that they get the recognition they deserve on the main stage.
In an interview with Billboard, the powerhouse vocalist said, “People need to full-on support R&B artists so that more of us can be on TV and be booked for concerts. That requires not just liking us on Facebook or Instagram, but buying our music and coming to our shows. R&B still lives.”
The nine-time Grammy Award nominee is currently on tour with Leela James and Raheem DeVaughn, stopping in Fresno, Calif. on Feb. 28.
