Baton Rouge rapper Lil Boosie pleaded guilty to a third-offense marijuana possession charge on Tuesday (September 22), earning at least one year in prison, reports local TV station WBRZ.
The 26-year-old rapper, born Torrence Hatch, agreed to a plea deal that cut his potential 10-year jail sentence down to at most two years, yet he must serve at least one. After being released, the rapper will face a two- to five-year probation.
“I’m ready to get this behind me,” Boosie told state District Judge Chip Moore Tuesday, after pleading guilty.
While Boosie doesn’t get sentenced until November 9th, the judge warned the rapper to stay out of trouble while free, or there would be harsh consequences.
Boosie was arrested in October, when police found a bag of marijuana, a blunt, and a gun in a vehicle he was driving.
He was charged with third-offense possession of marijuana, which is punishable by up to 20 years in prison, and possession of a firearm with a controlled dangerous substance, which carries a mandatory minimum five-year term.
The firearm charge will be dropped once he completes his prison term and probation.
Lil Boosie dropped his second solo album, Superbad: The Return of Boosie Bad Azz, last week. It’s his first new album since 2006.
