Although they’ve reportedly cut romantic ties, rappers Lil Durk and Dej Loaf are putting the music first. Recently released single, “The One,” features each of them shutting down haters of their past love connection.
“When we got together they couldn’t believe it/Right up in they faces, they ain’t even see us/Ride for each other, let’s call it even/ We too rare, they can’t be us,” Dej Loaf’s auto-tuned voice muses over the chorus. During Durk’s verse, he shouts out a few failed relationships such as Drake and Serena Williams, Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston, and Nicki Minaj and Meek Mill as odd examples of relationship goals.
It’s unclear when this song was recorded, or what the timing of its release means. Ultimately, it means these two artists aren’t fazed by the awkwardness, and are only focused on sharing good music.
