Lil Wayne is reportedly being accused of founding the Aspire Music Group in order to steal profits from his Young Money signee Drake, The Blast reports. Wayne is denying the claims however, and is taking legal action against Aspire in response.
Wayne, Birdman, and Cash Money have reportedly filed a lawsuit against AMG for allegedly conspiring to siphon money from Drake’s music deal.
According to legal documents obtained by The Blast, Wayne and Cash Money claim the company was only built to take profits from Birdman, Tunechi, and Young Money. “There was no business purpose to forming Aspire, other than to siphon profits out of the joint venture and to divert those profits to Sweeney, Bryant, and Carter/ Young Money,” Cash Money said in the lawsuit. “Aspire never conducted any business other than getting Drake signed to a record label. Aspire has never signed, nor sought to sign, a single additional artist.”
By contrast, Aspire claims that the suit was filed in order to “concoct a new fantasy narrative that casts Cash Money as the long-suffering victim of a scheme orchestrated by the very parties that it just settled with – Young Money and its owner principal Dwayne Carter.”
The new lawsuit comes shortly after Cash Money and Universal settled its legal case related to similar claims earlier this year. It’s unclear how the parties will settle this case.
