While many fans were excited and relieved to finally receive Lil Wayne‘s long-awaited album Tha Carter V, several pointed out the fact that his Young Money cohort Drake was noticeably absent from the project.
“He has a song that didn’t get cleared,” Wayne said of Drizzy. “The clearances man. The clearances man. People be trippin’ when they find out who it is and when they find out what the song’s subject is about. They don’t represent the names of something like that.”
Wayne also revealed that he doesn’t know what prohibits samples from being cleared, but that hasn’t stopped Drake from releasing material with Wayne over time.
“A few of the singles that [Drake and I] released throughout the years—those were Carter V songs,” Tunechi continued.
Elsewhere in the interview, Wayne noted that Mack Maine came up with the idea to include XXXTentacion in the song “Don’t Cry,” as Wayne did not know who he was.
