Lil Wayne has officially launched his own radio show on Apple’s Beats 1 channel. On Friday’s (May 8) episode of Young Money Radio, Tunechi and Eminem found out that they have a lot in common.
The rap titans discussed everything from ESPN’s Michael Jordan documentary, The Last Dance, to working on new music during quarantine.
“I’m writing and recording a little bit, not as much as I normally do…like I said I’m waiting for us to get past this [global pandemic],” said Em.
After trading a few compliments, Weezy and Em shouted out some of their favorite artists including Joyner Lucas, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Big Sean and Killer Mike, as well as RJ Pain, YBN Cordae, and Griselda.
Wayne goes on to speak about his creative process. “I try to listen to the new music and I can get a little buzz and go [in the studio] and kill something, but I still try to go off my regular procedure, and that’s just my natural inspiration.”
“Same thing,” Em replied. “When we first start out it’s a blank canvas. We paint on that s**t until every area is full. When you’ve made so many songs about everything it gets a little tricky…You probably write all the time, and I do to.”
Tunechi confessed to Googling his own lyrics so that he doesn’t repeat them. “If you go on my Google history and press ‘L’ the first thing that [comes] up is ‘Lil Wayne lyrics.’ I literally have to Google my lyrics to make sure I didn’t say stuff before!”
Em admitted that he does the same thing. “I swear to God I do that too! I just did that s**t last night!”
The music vets also talk “simplifying bars” and making music that satisfies their “core fans base” but also resonates with the new generation.
