Lil Wayne sat down with Katie Couric for a candid interview on her ABC daytime talk show. The two attempt to relive Weezy’s 2009 interview with the former ABC News anchor in the lead up to the Grammys that year, where he called himself a “gangster” and spoke to her about his several Grammy nods for Tha Carter III. In his latest interview with Couric, which airs Monday, Weezy talks about dropping out of high school (“It was my mom’s idea…”), drinking syrup (“I was doing it too much..”), his kids and how he was treated in prison. “Were they kinda excited to have you there?” Couric sheepishly asked Wayne of his inmates at Rikers Island during his 2010 incarceration for gun possession. “It’s jail,” he replied. “For the first twenty seconds or thirty seconds they’re like ‘Oh my god that’s really him” but then it’s back to jail quick, and the reality of where you are at clicks back in.” Lil Wayne dropped his Dedication 5 mixtape over Labor Day weekend to mixed reviews. “I know I’ll be able to retire at 35,” the 30-year-old rapper told Couric, “because I am so ready to retire now.” Watch clips from his interview below. The Season 2 premiere of Katie featuring Lil Wayne airs Monday, Sept. 9, at 3PM on ABC.
