When it rains, it pours. In the midst of serving the first 10 days of his one-year sentence at Rikers Island, Lil Wayne missed a court date in Arizona for a previous drug and weapons charge.
Wayne’s attorney, James Tilson, stated that his client clearly couldn’t show up for his final trial management conference court case since he’s currently in prison on his New York-related weapons charge.
In January 2008, Wayne was stopped at a border checkpoint near Yuma, Arizona. Authorities claimed to have found a handgun on his tour bus, cocaine and ecstasy. The rapper pled not guilty to misconduct involving weapons, one count each of possession of a narcotic drug for sale, possession of dangerous drugs and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Although Tilson is asking to have Wayne’s bond remain the same, Yuma County prosecutor Deann Sandry says the state views him as a convicted felon now and is looking to increase the rapper’s bond to $150,000. —Linda Hobbs
