On Thursday (Nov. 15), Lil Xan announced on Instagram that he will enter rehab to kick his opioid addiction.
The 22-year-old hip-hop artist wrote, “I just dropped out of SoundCloud Uni to go to rehab. I leave in five days, and I couldn’t be happier with this choice. I love you guys for being so supportive and can’t wait to get back clean headed ready to finish my album!”
Lil Xan also detailed his decision on TMZ as to why he’s going to a drug-treatment center. Xan said the death of fellow young rappers such as Lil Peep, XXXtentacion, and Mac Miller (who he said affected him the most) prompted the Soundcloud rapper to get help for his drug addiction, which included Norco (a Hydrocodone), and “a lot of opioids.”
The Total Xanarchy artist revealed that once he completes rehab, he plans on finishing a tribute album to the late Miller who passed away in September at the age of 26. Earlier this month, it was revealed by a medical examiner that Miller died from mixed drug toxicity (fentanyl, cocaine, and ethanol). “I know we both struggle with the same problems and I just feel like it’s time to get better,” Xan said.
“I’ve been way worse in the past, I’ve actually been 10 times worse than what I’ve been now, but I want to do rehab just so I can get over this last little hump, like stretch, so I could finally be back to Diego,” Xan added. The “Betrayed” rapper will also change his stage name to Diego, which is his birth name.
