Lil Yachty’s album Teenage Emotions did not perform as expected, and the 20-year-old recently explained that the lackluster sales of his debut LP left him “devastated and so confused.”
The “Peek A Boo” musician and rapper Kodie Shane sat down for a candid chat in a new piece for Interview magazine, where the ATLiens discussed their blossoming careers and hopes for the future. The topic of growing pains and criticism was touched upon, and Yachty divulged on his own emotions after the numbers for his album were in.
“When I first released my Teenage Emotions album I thought that sh*t was fire, as you should,” he said. “Then the sales came back and it did 44,000 first week and I was devastated and so confused, I worked so hard.” The album was met with lukewarm reception, and debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart.
Lil Boat said that he was trying to “force these styles,” and Shane said that it’s very easy “to get caught up in what’s trending.” However, Yachty explained that he is going to be himself for his next album. He is reportedly back in the studio hard at work on his next project, reportedly titled Lil Boat 2.
