Lil Yachty ruffled the feathers of a few hip-hop purist Thursday. (August 25) The 19-year-old ATLien, born Miles McCollum, said he isn’t familiar with music from some of hip-hop’s most elite lyricists.
“[I] “honestly couldn’t name five songs from Tupac and Biggie,” Yachty said. “But if I’m doing this my way and making all this money, why should I do it how everybody says it’s supposed to be done?”
Yachty, who describes his music as “bubble-gum trap” considers himself to be a super optimistic rapper who can’t relate to the downtrodden lyrics of some of the culture’s forefathers. To put it in layman’s terms, Yachty thinks a lot of the elder statesmen (and women) of hip-hop are just that, old.
“[People] just don’t like me because I’m not lyrical enough… If you ever read comments and click on their profile, they’re like super old,” he said during an interview with The Breakfast Club.
Yachty’s comment merited the ire of the Internet and of course, many had to offer their two cents via Twitter.
If you support trash rappers like Lil Uzi Vert and Lil yachty your opinion of music means absolutely nothing to me.

Something tells us Yachty could care less about folks and their opinion of him. The boat fanatic is getting ready to tour with Rae Sremmurd.
