Lil Yachty Apologizes For Dissing Notorious B.I.G.

Lil Yachty finally realized that he has to give credit where it’s due. And after brazenly stating that the Notorious B.I.G was “overrated” earlier in the month, the rapper took a moment to correct his mistake and issue an apology to fans on Ebro Darden’s Beats 1 episode on Monday (Nov. 28).

While the “Minnesota” rapper reasserted the fact that he wasn’t a faithful listener of the Brooklyn native’s music, he retraced his comments just a bit in regards to Biggie’s legacy. “Until about two weeks ago, I had never listened to a Biggie song. I’m not going to sit here and lie and say I just bump him, but I know for a fact he was spittin’, he snapped,” he said. “I was listening to it, and I liked how he do the role play. He’d do a story wrapping back and forth with himself and then there’d be a skit. It was dope.”

Yachty also noted that he regretted speaking so freely without thinking about the consequences. “The only thing I kind of hate is that I kind of spoke so quick on him, saying I don’t know this I don’t know that before I gave him a chance and listened to him,” he said. “Before I said that I was in the blind. I feel like I owe an apology. I didn’t think before I spoke on that topic. I know now how important and just how serious it is to some people. I didn’t want people thinking that I was disrespecting him because it wasn’t a disrespect thing. That’s just my personal opinion.”

The rapper further touched on his upbringing, which he previously discussed in an interview with Billboard in Aug. 2016. “My dad did not play Biggie or Tupac so I had never heard it. And I just now, to this day, I feel like I was wrong for speaking about something like that without taking a second to listen.”

Fans may still be confused how Lil Yachty had never heard at least one Biggie or Pac song before 2016, but it’s good to know the rapper is learning from his mistakes. Check out the full interview below.
