“I’ve been nominated for Grammys before, but this is the first time I’m actually in L.A. so I can attend,” Eric Prydz tells VIBE during a phone call from his tour bus.
The Grammy-nominated producer-DJ spoke with us moments ago as he embarked on a whirlwind trip to Las Vegas from L.A.—then back again tomorrow—where he’ll attend the 2013 Grammy Awards. Prydz nabbed a nomination this year for his private remix of M83’s “Midnight City” in the ‘Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical’ category.
“Normally, I get asked by bands or artists or record companies, ‘would you like to remix this?’ but with ‘Midnight City’ it was the other way around,” says Prydz.
“I actually made the remix first. I made it for myself because I loved the original track so much, but it didn’t really have the tempo to fit in my DJ sets. The remix got really popular so we sent it to the record company and asked if they wanted to release it officially. They did and it really pushed the record in America, from what I’ve heard.”
He’s heard correctly. As for the jaunt to Vegas, the Swedish demi-God of DJ’s is spinning at Surrender at the Encore tonight before heading back to L.A., to walk the red carpet at the Grammys.
“I’m not going to get much sleep tonight,” says Prydz. “It’s going to be a bit of a hectic weekend because we’ve taken the tour bus to Vegas from L.A., then straight after the show, we go back to L.A. for the Grammys. We have beds so hopefully I will get four or five hours of sleep.”
When headed to one of the most esteemed musical award shows in America, sleep deprivation becomes irrelevant to the man who claims he doesn’t “care if I win or not,” adding, “it’s more the honor of being nominated and I get go to the awards, which is going to be fun.”
Even with all the traveling and lack of sleep, Eric Prydz is ready for more. The producer says: “It’s not a particular moment that I look forward to the most—maybe the after parties.”
