LL Cool J’s discography hosts hard-hitting lyrics that made him an outlasting rapper from the late 80s up to 2013’s Authentic. Given his success in the early stages of his career, LL was seen as a prime target for established or rising artists. Now, to get into his mind during those times of beef, the Queens native revisited one of his past diss records.
As noted by Okayplayer, the rapper-turned-actor decided to speak on his 1990 diss track “To Da Break Of Dawn.” Within the 4:34 melody, the Lip Sync Battle host vehemently addressed Kool Moe Dee, Ice T, and MC Hammer. The latter artist was the subject of a recent question LL received. The 50-year-old answered a fan’s inquiry on what exactly inspired the beef during a segment to promote “Rock The Bells Radio” for IGTV.
The “Paradise” rapper prefaced his answer by stating he didn’t have a problem with MC Hammer, but rather MC Hammer “had a beef with me. And he knows I love him.” MC Hammer first said LL’s name on a diss record titled “Let’s Get It Started” and from there, LL felt he had no other choice but to respond.
“I think he just said my name in a record for attention,” LL said. “But I never had any problems, personally, with Hammer. I lit him up because that’s what I was supposed to do.” He also discussed his rap battles of the past.
