Mac Miller‘s parents Mark and Karen will reportedly be in attendance at the upcoming 61st Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on behalf of their late-son.
TMZ reports that if Miller’s final album, Swimming, wins the “Best Rap Album” award at the Feb. 10 festivities, that his parents will accept the award on his behalf. The posthumous nomination is the first time Miller has been recognized by the Recording Academy, and his LP is up against Cardi B‘s Invasion of Privacy, Nipsey Hussle‘s Victory Lap, Pusha T‘s DAYTONA, and Travis Scott’s ASTROWORLD.
Mac’s mother has been keeping her son’s legacy alive through The Mac Miller Circles Fund, which aims to help the youth from undeserved communities through “programming, resources and opportunities…helping them recognize their full potential through exploration in the arts and community building.” Fundraisers including highly-publicized tribute concert featuring Vince Staples, SZA and more has helped foundation approach nearly $1 million in donations.
Miller died from an accidental drug overdose in September 2018 in California, which according to the official toxicology reports showed “mixed drug toxicity” of Fentanyl, cocaine, and alcohol. He was just 26 years old, and Swimming was released to the public the month before his passing.
