This morning (March 23), the hip-hop world woke up to horrible news of the passing of rapper Phife Dawg. As the hip-hop community reflects on Phife’s contributions to the culture, and his untimely death, Mac Miller hit the studio to pay tribute to the A Tribe Called Quest member.
With Mac’s new release, “5 Foot Assassin,” Larry Fisherman puts together lyrics from A Tribe Called Quest’s “1nce Again,” and a vintage freestyle from an Arsenio Hall appearance. Mac lays the vocals down over a somber piano-lead backdrop, which captures the sober mood.
It’s good to see an emcee as young as Mac Millerpay tribute to a legendary rapper that was before our time.
