The “Material Girl” singer went all the way natural when she posted a picture of her hairy underarms with the caption, “Long hair…… Don’t Care!!!!!! #artforfreedom #rebelheart #revolutionoflove,” while dressed in a bow tie and black lace bra.
The pop music veteran is teaming with VICE for the Art for Freedom project, a global digital initiative that supports the freedom of expression and is working to respond, address and protest persecution around the world.
This isn’t the first time she’s expressed her dislike of shaving though. In a past interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she revealed, “[G]oing to high school, I saw how popular girls had to behave to get the boys. I knew I couldn’t fit into that. So I decided to do the opposite…I refused to wear makeup, to have a hairstyle. I refused to shave. I had hairy armpits.”
She continued, “The boys in my school would make fun of me. ‘Hairy monster.’ You know, things like that. Straight men did not find me attractive. I think they were scared of me because I was different. I’ve always asked, ‘Why? Why do I have to do that? Why do I have to look this way? Why do I have to dress this way? Why do I have to behave this way?'”
