The time when you have to be loyal to one music genre is gone thanks grossly to the EDM revolution, which has remixed and revamped many of our favorite artists and songs from across the music sphere, and given them an electronic boost. One of the most popular genre-benders these days is reggae infused with EDM, as can be seen with such combinations as Skrillex & Damiam “Jr.Gong” Marley, Bob Marley & Benny Benassi, and, most recently, the Major Lazer crew.
Comprised of three DJ legends – Diplo, Walshy Fire & Jillionaire – Major Lazer attempts to spark a musical revolution in Kingston with their latest single “Jah No Partial,” feat. Flux Pavilion. You definitely pick up on the reggae vibe with this jam with the vocal samplings of dancehall legend Johnny Osborne. “He’s just got one of those voices that’s the dominating voices of dancehalls so that when you hear his voice, you know it’s him,” says Walshy Fire. Then they bring in the essential dubstep bass of Flux Pavilion to really crank these up a notch. Honestly, you can’t have reggae without dubstep these days – it’s become one of those random yet perfect combinations like fries and ketchup.
The single drops worldwide on October 22.
