Mariah Carey is no stranger to love anthems, but when it’s time to chuck the deuces to a relationship, the vocal-bending artist always manages to flip the script.
On Thursday (Sept. 13), Carey unleashed her latest single, “GTFO.” The melody is crafted by dvsn‘s mainstay producer Nineteen85. The latter has also crafted instrumentals for Drake, DJ Khaled, Juicy J, Tiara Thomas and more.
“You took my love for granted/ You left me lost and disenchanted/ Bulldoze my heart as if you planned it/ My prince was so unjustly handsome,” Carey croons. In a press statement, the mother-of-two briefly dished on putting together this musical baby of an album. “I wanted to give my fans and everyone a first listen that wasn’t so serious,” she said. “I’ve had so much fun making this album, and I wanted the first moment to reflect that light-hearted spirit.”
In an interview with People, Carey revealed there will be a little bit of everything for everyone on her upcoming album. “Some of the record is lighthearted and fun, and some [songs] I really went deep in terms of the lyrical content,” she said. “There’s a nice cross-section of things.”
