Marvel is back with its second installment of its Hip-hop Variant Posters, and this time, the action hero brand is recruiting albums, new and old to join its collection.
The new series features Nova recreating Chance the Rapper’s Coloring Book album, Luke Cage stepping in as LL Cool J on Bigger and Deffer, and Jessica Jones replacing Kevin Gates on his Islah cover. The Hulk, Spider-man, and more also sub in on Wu-Tang’s Iron Flag cover.
“Comics and hip-hop share a common narrative: They’re all about underdogs struggling, striving and persevering against overwhelming odds,” Marvel editor-in-chief Axel Alonso told Playboy. “So it’s no surprise that so many rappers have been influenced by the Marvel mythology or embraced the Marvel heroes over the decades.”
The second installment of the Marvel hip-hop posters follows the 2015 collection, which featured various superheroes reimagined in De La Soul’s 3 Feet High, Dr. Dre’s The Chronic, and A$AP Rocky’s Long.Live.A$AP.
