Mary J. Blige has a full-length version of the Bruce Springsteen song that she sang to Hillary Clinton when the Democratic presidential hopeful stopped by her Apple Music show last month.
The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul and Kendrick Lamar joined forces for the complete rendition of ” American Skin (41 Shots),” which surfaced online Friday (Oct. 21).
With the Compton rapper’s assistance, MJB retells the story of Amadou Diallo, a 23-year-old unarmed African man shot and killed by NYPD officers in 1999.
Even though the track is more than a decade old, the subject matter still resonates given ongoing cases of police brutality.
Listen to MJB’s “(American Skin) 41 Shots” ballad below.
UPDATE: This audio no longer seems to be available. Keep an eye on Apple Music for the song’s official release date.
