Mary J. Blige dropped a huge bomb on the hip hop community with the announcement she has a collaboration on the way with Kanye West. The singer-actress is hard at work on her follow up to 2014’s London Sessions. Blige, who is also currently in New Orleans filming a role in the indie drama Mudbound, confirmed this all in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
“I don’t want to give up the name of the song yet, but the album is mostly complete,” Mary J said. “But I absolutely got a chance to work with the great Kanye West. And the song is crazy—I can’t wait for people to hear it.”
Blige’s A&R Eddie Fourcell originally spoiled the news when he was on the Arbiters of A&Rpodcast. He leaked her new album could feature a West feature, but didn’t offer anymore details. Other artists that are expected on the LP are Hit-Boy, DJ Camper, B.A.M. and Jazmine Sullivan, the latter of whom, is already on the record telling Billboard that she recorded a song with Blige back in May.
The song however is still tightly under wraps. Blige refused to give up a name, only teasing that everyone is going to “flip” once they hear it. She goes on to give a bit more details on her first ever Yeezy collab.
“The flavor of the track starts off with piano keys,” she said. “It’s very dramatic in the beginning and it goes into a loud horn. That is, like an old sample horn. And then this gigantic beat kicks in and I sing. He rhymes after my two verses. It’s incredible. He kills it.”
Mary J., I promise we are all ready to flip.
