Veteran rhymer Masta Ace is back on the scene in preparation for the drop of his upcoming collaboration album with Marco Polo, A Breukelen Story.
Out Friday, Nov. 9, A Breukelen Story integrates Marco Polo’s boom-bap with Ace’s intricate story-telling, as Ace’s signature skits string the project together.
Embedded on the 14-track is Masta Ace’s “Still Love Her,” featuring Pearl Gates. For the track describing the pain of a love lost, Masta Ace linked with VIBE for an exclusive in-studio performance of his latest cut. Taking listeners back to the time spent in the projects, “Still Love Her” narrates Ace’s fleeting encounters with a woman he hasn’t been able to shake since.
“As I look back and analyze it all/ I realize now I fantasized it all/She was never mine, I guess I had it wrong/I thought that it was love just ’cause we had a song/ But in hindsight, they say it’s 20/20,” raps Ace.
Last month, Masta Ace and Marco Polo also dropped A Breukelen Story’s lead single, “Breukelen ‘Brooklyn'” featuring Smif ‘n’ Wessun.
“’Breukelen’ is a celebration of the city I grew up in. There are many songs about Brooklyn but so many have depicted it in a negative light. This cinematic video shows Brooklyn in all its beauty and diversity” says Masta Ace. “The album’s concept revolves around Marco Polo moving to Brooklyn from Toronto, Canada. ‘Breukelen’ is the Dutch spelling of Brooklyn. The Dutch brought the name with them in their migration to the new world and there is a parallel between that migration of people from Holland and Marco Polo’s move from Toronto.”
