Mathew Knowles is the first person closely related to Beyonce to speak on her Lemonade album and visual. Rumors have been swirling since the album’s Apr. 23 release that infidelity of either Bey’s husband Jay Z, or Mr. Knowles, was the inspiration for many of the tracks on the 12-song opus.
It turns out, however, that Mr. Knowles doesn’t really know who his daughter is referring to on the album either…or does he? He spoke to SiriusXM radio to offer his input on any speculation that may be running rampant, EW reports.
“There’s no way that we can get into the mind of Beyoncé,” he told Mark Thompson of the show, Make It Plain. “Only Beyoncé can answer who she specifically is talking to. I’d rather not get into speculation, so my answer is I don’t know. I can only speak of being a proud father. I think Beyoncé pushed the envelope of creativity on this HBO special. I know the response you want to get. You’re not going to get that response.”
Does he know? Does he not? What’s going on? Like father, like daughter, we’re almost completely lost.
It’s almost certain though that the track “Daddy Lessons” is about Mr. Knowles, as it’s been known that Bey has had a tumultuous relationship with her father/former manager. The two creatively parted ways in 2011, and that same year, Mathew and Bey’s mother, Ms. Tina, divorced.
We’re sure more details will emerge so we can unlock the mystery of who Lemonade is about. Listen to the entire conversation on Soundcloud below.
