It looks like the strain between Matt Barnes and Derek Fisher is far from loosening up. Ahead of Barnes’ Memphis Grizzlies match against the New York Knicks on Saturday (Jan. 16), the 35-year-old pro-athlete shared his thoughts on being in the same vicinity as Fisher once again.
“I know I got to keep my mouth shut because then he’ll run and tell. So we’re focused on playing that team (the Knicks),” he told the New York Daily News. “And when I’m retired, him and I will cross paths again.”
The former teammates’ were at odds late last year when Fisher was reportedly getting close with Barnes’ ex-wife Gloria Govan. Once Barnes heard of the suspected pair’s meet-up, he reportedly made a bee-line for their location where Barnes and Fisher allegedly engaged in a physical match.
When was asked by reporters if he’d like to see the league discipline Fisher as well, he replied, “I never wish for another man’s downfall. I always knew the NBA would come down hard on me, so I wasn’t surprised…Cause I’m the bad guy.”
Towards the end of 2015, Barnes posted a lengthy Instagram post on his lowest points, summing up the statement with “lesson learned.”
