We all know the college funding struggle is a very real one. Not only can finding school placement be stressful, but not everyone will be granted an academic scholarship and FAFSA doesn’t always come through in the clutch with financial aid. Luckily for one young scholar and his family, MC Lyte made the college journey a much easier one.
During a visit to The Steve Harvey Show, MC Lyte awarded 19-year-old Cortney Rhodes—who is also a graduate of Steve Harvey’s mentoring camp—a $50,000 check as part of Hip Hop Sisters Network‘s ongoing #EducateOurMen campaign. In addition to the scholarship, Lyte granted Rhodes admission to Dillard University after learning that he specifically wanted to study in New Orleans. Lyte currently sits on the historically black college’s Board of Trustees.
As you can imagine, both Rhodes and his mother, Linda Steele, were overcome with joy. Watch video of the captured moment right here.
