Megan Thee Stallion is keeping the Tina Snow train going in 2021. After adding her Hot Girl flair to Ariana Grande’s “34+35” remix, the Houston rapper has joined pop-rock band, Maroon 5, on their new single, “Beautiful Mistakes,” released on Wednesday (March 3).
On the blackbear- and Adam Goldstein-produced track, we hear the perspective of a lover who can’t quite let go of the memories shared with an ex and becomes consumed with daydreams of how he wishes things could be.
“I fill my days with the way you walk/ And fill my nights with broken dreams,” Levine, the band’s lead singer, echoes in the single’s pre-chorus. “I make up lies inside my head/ Like one day you’ll come back to me.”
But Megan steps in and snaps him back to reality making it clear she’s a woman who knows her worth; she’s not walking backward and has moved on without him. She knows she’s the best you’re ever gonna have.
“You did me wrong ’cause I let you/ Usually, I like my situations beneficial,” she makes clear in the song’s third verse. “Doin’ something different, got me lookin’ stupid/ The only way I’m comin’ back to you is if you dream it, lucid.”
Damn.
Levine and the band recently chatted with Apple Music’s The Zane Lowe Show for the single’s live premiere earlier today. He talked about their collaboration with Megan and shared his thoughts on her showcasing her musical ability by singing in the song’s bridge.
“I was like the little break where you go to the melodic thing, to be honest, it actually shows this new kind of branch of what she does, and this new versatility that she’s going to show everybody right now,” he said. “That’s a side of her I had never really heard yet. Well, it’s just, it’s one of those great songs that I think kind of continues to build. And the way she built her part was just, it couldn’t have been a more epic kind of climax for the song. I mean, it really is absolutely perfect.”
