If we’re being honest with ourselves, the only reason, and we mean only reason why we’re all still alive is because Young Metro Boomin trusts us. If he didn’t, well, we all know what happens next.
The highly-sought after producer who’s tagline is as viral as his beats sat down with DJ Drama to discuss the origins of the now famous words “If Young Metro don’t trust you, I’m gon’ shoot you.”
“I’ve been using that as a tag in beats since about August,” the 22 year old producer said. “Jumpman, before the song was recorded, that beat, it already said that. Me and Future did this song with Uncle Murda and one of the lines he had said in there was, ‘If young Metro don’t trust you, I’m gon’ shoot you.’ When he said that it had a different tone, but I remember when we were in the studio he had another tone, which is the one that’s the tag that was just like muted. I just made sure to go back on the session and just get it and just go HAM with it.”
The prominent tagline has been featured on Future and Drake’s What A Time To Be Alive, to Kanye West’s“Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1,” from his The Life of Pablo LP. Donald Trump protesters have even held signs borrowing from the tag.
When asked who he does trust, Young Metro, real name Leland T. Wayne, made sure to preserve the mystery surrounding his popular catchphrase.
“Man, everybody keeps asking me that and I feel like I could say, Tweet or Instagram who I do trust but I just feel like that’ll take away from it, so we’re just going to leave it in the air,” he said. Everybody would have to start looking over their shoulder”
Smart man.
