After listening to covers of Drake’s meme-tastic “Hotline Bling” from artists like Justin Bieber, Eyrkah Badu, and Kehlani, you may have thought that would be the end of all the covers. But months after the track’s summer release, Miguel put his own spin on it with a soulful, live rendition down in Florida.
The Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival put on what it called a “PoWow!” where they called for a song mashup with “superstars.” This year’s mashup called for Miguel to unite forces with Arcade Fire to perform Drake’s top-chartting hit.
In a true Miguel fashion, the track was slowed down a bit, mixing raw instrumentals with Miguel’s mellow, yet strong vocals as he sang the tropical-inspired hit. Not bad Miguel. It looks like we’ll have to put the “Adorn” singer’s name down in the discussion on great covers.
You can watch a snippet of Miguel covering “Hotline Bling” below, or watch the full mashup with Arcade Fire on Periscope here.
