Missy Elliott is reportedly hopping on a new opportunity to promote music education to schools around the nation. The duo has reportedly partnered with American Express Platinum to headline and host (respectively) a fundraising event called the Yellow Ball this Sept. 2018. Pharrell Williams will also serve as the host for the event.
The Yellow Ball will reportedly benefit the Young Audiences Art for Learning, which establishes programs and initiatives that promote arts education. It was reportedly named and inspired by Pharrell’s love for the color yellow. He believes it represents a sign of hope and optimism and is meant to “help to shine a light on the need for arts education and its ability to pave the way for a brighter future.”
“Music and the arts have been part of my life since birth, but it was my teachers, Mr. Warren, Mrs. Warren and Mr. Sharps, who exposed me to so many different kinds of music, that it expanded my mind and my imagination. I would not be where I am today without music and arts education in my school as a youth,” Pharrell, who is the Creative Director of the Platinum Card, said. “This is why I am so grateful that American Express is working with me to make sure we keep arts and music in our schools, accessible to all, where it belongs.”
In addition to Missy’s headlining performance, A$AP Ferg and DJ Stretch Armstrong will also be making an appearance. American Express Platinum Collective member and artist, Daniel Arsham has created a multi-room immersive art installation for guests to enjoy.
The Yellow Ball will take place at the Brooklyn Museum on Sept. 10. For more information regarding the event and arts education, head to the official website here.
