Missy Elliott and Prince could’ve made made magic on several tracks together, but unfortunately that didn’t happen because Misdemeanor lost the music files the late icon sent to her. The MC spoke on CBC’s The Strombow Show about the tragic misplacement.
Missy revealed she and Prince had tentative plans to collaborate, and he even sent her some tracks to get the ball rolling. But the potential collab was put on ice, when she lost the music after she moved.
Unfortunately, audio from this interview isn’t currently online, but The Guardian confirmed the story. Missy explained the potential collab came about after the two met in Los Angeles. The “WTF” rapper asked him if she could use a lookalike on stage for a show.
“He had sent me some stuff, music of his and I moved and I could never find that music,” she explained. “And yesterday I was sitting there saying, ‘I have to go to my house, in my storage space and find this music.”
She went on to talk about the impact The Purple One had on her. “When he entered the room, he was like a giant… I mean, I think everybody just pulled up and started looking to records and records and records. And you always knew this was a genius, but when you really go and listen — you appreciate,” she continued. “And we really have to start appreciating these artists while they are still here, and not just wait until these moments to recognize the genius and the greatness of what they’ve done for music.”
Unfortunately, the two never linked up, and Prince passed away on April 21, 2016. But if that collaboration had gone down, it would have most definitely been pretty dope.
